Lean Construction is frequently introduced through visible tools such as pull planning, the Last Planner System, Kanban boards, daily huddles, visual management, and waste walks. These tools can be extremely valuable, but the tools alone are not Lean, and simply copying them does not create a Lean culture. This high-energy, no-bullshido session introduces the origins and foundational principles of Lean while examining why so many Lean initiatives fail after the excitement of the first workshop disappears. Participants will explore customer value, value streams, flow, pull, waste reduction, continuous improvement, PDCA, visual management, and work-in-process limitations.
The session will also challenge participants to recognize when Lean tools are being implemented as isolated activities rather than as part of a connected production and learning system. Most importantly, attendees will leave understanding that Lean Construction is not a collection of sticky-note exercises. It is a different way of thinking about work: improving flow, solving problems, learning continuously, and making the work better for the people who perform it. The session builds from the presentation’s introduction to Lean history, the five guiding principles, the eight wastes, pull production, Personal Kanban, PDCA, customer value, and Plus/Delta reflection.
