Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa

To expand upon their Career Pathways program to meet the workforce instability gap. The funding will help create exposure to the skilled trades and engage in hands-on experience. BGCCI plans to develop mentoring programs to increase exposure to various career paths and enhance diversity within the skilled trades and construction industry. These funds will provide tools and equipment that often limit individuals’ ability to get into this field.

To fund new construction tools and equipment for their new woodshop. A qualified expert/teacher will be able to teach the students how to use the new/modernized equipment. The new equipment will help Denver High School develop their industrial tech program for years to come.
Forest Ave Outreach

Award: $30,000
MBI Supporting Members:HRTLND Companies, The Waldinger Corporation, The Weitz Company and Tri-City Electric Co.
The funding for this proposal will go towards the purchase of a vehicle/van to transport students to and from field trips that will allow them hands-on training in the trades industry. They have listed transportation as the biggest barrier for this demographic, and with this vehicle, they will be able to expand/add a year-2 program.
Freedom for Youth

Award: $20,000
MBI Supporting Members: Clifton LarsonAllen LLP, Elder Corp., Estes Construction, ISG, PDM Precast, Seneca Companies, The Weitz Company, West Bank, and Wolf Construction
Funding goes towards drawing a different demographic into the skilled trades, and tracking the program through their CRM database. This grant will help pay for personnel during the first phase at Freedom Construction as an earn while you learn approach.
Girls Inc. of Sioux City
Sioux City, IA
Award: $21,900
Funding will go towards the tools/supplies, that will help the expansion of the Toolbox Program within Girls Inc. of Sioux City.
Indianola Community Schools
Indianola, IA
Award: $2,000
MBI Supporting Member: Downing Construction Inc.
The project is focused on the creation of an HIS CTE website. The website will provide a single point for both students and employers to post and access job opportunities. This website will allow for the students to connect with local commercial contractors, and lead to direct placement in the industry.
